I truly believe Barr and Trump have decided to announce the start of a criminal investigation into spying on the Trump campaign. It’s their best shot at undermining the Mueller Report.
So fucking corrupt.

Remember, the SDNY answers to the fat slob. It's the new you state AG who needs to bust some fatties.

Redactions are supposedly minimal. Don't get your hopes up.

Sure R25. Keep dreaming.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 18, 2019 9:28 AM |
R25 If they were minimal, it wouldn't have taken nearly a month of hemming and hawing from Barr to get the report out.

I left the first and last words of every sentence, unless those words were collusion, criminal, treason/treasonous, theft, conspiracy, lies/falsehood, malfeasance,..

Barr is openly orchestrating a cover up. The press conference hours before the release of the report is a cover up.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 18, 2019 10:21 AM |
It’s a cover up. Barr is not working for the nation, Barr is working for Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 18, 2019 10:24 AM |
Bot a single member of Mueller’s team will be at the press conference.

Barr & cohorts delayed releasing the redacted report until a long holiday weekend when Congress is away for 10 says Then the rollout and methodology is conducted in a way to totally favor Trump.
Subpoena all these characters and start impeachment proceedings immediately. Get tough and mean business, Democrats. Don't show weakness and frustration, but vigorous determination to act.

^10 days. Not says
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 18, 2019 11:55 AM |
I just think the media is going to make too much of this report, accepting it on Barr's terms, when what they need to ask Barr, at 9:30, is what he shared with the WH, who he shared it with, and why he did that. I would rip his agenda out of his hands at 9: 30 and run my own agenda. We don't even know if this is Mueller's actual report.
What R33 said x 100,000,000

I want to make sure I see Jeffrey Toobin today, because he always has a good take on the legal aspects. I prefer him to Ari Melber. But I must say yesterday or the day before, Melber got all over Ken Dilanian's shit interrupting and correcting him, until Dilanian was blushing and frustrated.I was glad to see someone check Little Kenny.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 18, 2019 11:58 AM |
Kellyanne knows to leak tidbits to Dilanian. He'll carry the WH messaging on anything. The problem with that is such leaks often include deception.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 18, 2019 12:53 PM |
R39, you are the one who obviously needs help. It is time for you to return to the real world. the media have been lying to you. The same media outlets that told you that Saddam Hussein had a vast arsenal of WMDs when they wanted a war in Iraq have been telling you about "Russian Collusion." They were lying then, they are lying now.
Trump has been speaking the truth all along when he said there was no Russian Collusion. Adam Schiff is scared to death the truth about his involvement in human trafficking will be revealed. The Standard Hotel scandals will bring down Schiff.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 18, 2019 1:02 PM |
It won't happen but I would love for a reporter to ask Barr.
If Donald J Trump shot someone in the middle of 5th avenue would you still support him? because he claims he could do that and wouldn't lose a single supporter and clearly you are supporting him.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 18, 2019 1:03 PM |
Hilarious how Senator Schumer accuses Trump of "hand-picking" Barr, as though all Attorneys General were not chosen by the POTUS.
Barr was chosen because George W. Bush flipped on the Deep State, Barr will be kinder and gentler to the Bush clan than another AG might have been.

So when Donald Jr, Manafort and Kushner met with Russians about dirt on Hillary, that wasn't cooperation/collusion with Russians, and when Pres Trump created a press release that was a lie claiming that meeting was about adoption that wasn't obstruction.
What a fucking liar.

Barr was so sleazy in his characterization of Trump Admin working to assist the Special Counsel. That was pure spin. There were several times when Barr seemed to be spinning WH talking points.

It's like Barr has taken over the Huckster's job.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | April 18, 2019 2:26 PM |
I also wanted to know what the scope of the investigation was. Jeremy Bash has some good points. We already know that Trump didn't collude with IRA and official Russia Government. No one has ever accused them of that. If that is where all the No Collusion is coming from then it's no shock. But what about all the other areas.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | April 18, 2019 2:27 PM |

Sadly, the majority of the American public is over this. Now it's just going to look like sour grapes to the public. Americans have incredibly short attention spans. They're already ready for the next fresh scandal. Mueller is just a re-run that they're switching the channel on.

It's not a coincidence that this all went down after Barr secretly shared the report with Trump weeks ago.
Will he be excused for mental incompetence? Fake suicide (private cremation), then a quick exit to Russia or Indonesia? A sentence then a pardon?

The President then asked, “What about these notes? Why do you take notes? Lawyers don’t take notes. I never had a lawyer who takes notes.” McGahn responded that he keeps notes because he is a “real lawyer” and explained that notes create a record and are not a bad thing. What the fuck was Barr thinking? He knew we were going to read all this. I’m sure they’re spinning it on Fox, but even Fox viewers want to know what happened according to polls. They have a lawyer on staff there that is halfway decent IIRC. They can’t cover up everything.
Everyone else is saying blatantly that Trump is guilty and the only thing stopping Mueller was being told he wouldn’t be prosecuted no matter what he did. Even then he says he wants to preserve evidence (for when Trump is out). And says Congress should take it up.

by Anonymous | reply 193 | April 18, 2019 5:23 PM |
Mueller was cautious and systematic. Some may see he needed to be more confrontational and needed to have delivered more aggressive and critical statements about Trump. That is a perceptive argument perhaps: but he did provide Congress a very plausible avenue to further investigate and pursue impeachment if they so choose. By Mueller being detailed and looking to have done an objective approach, it somewhat minimizes the other side (Trump supporting Republicans) in portraying Mueller falsely as a Democratic and biased partisan.
The ball is in the court of House Democrats.

Both Ivanka and Hope Hicks were at the Trump Tower meeting. PDF page 123:
Rick Gates, who was the deputy campaign chairman, stated during interviews with the Office that in the days before June 9, 2016 Trump Jr. announced at a regular morning meeting of senior campaign staff and Trump family members that he had a lead on negative information about the Clinton Foundation. Gates believed that Trump Jr. said the information was coming from a group in Kyrgyzstan and that he was introduced to the group by a friend. Gates recalled that the meeting was attended by Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Paul Manafort, Hope Hicks, and, joining late, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. According to Gates, Manafort warned the group that meeting likely would not yield vital information and they should be careful. Hicks denied any knowledge of the June 9 meeting before 2017 and Kushner did not recall if the planned June 9 meeting came up at all earlier that week.

So those a re your options. 1. Stay and face impeachment, 2. Face defeat at the polls, 3. Retire and walk away. 4. However these crucial chips eventually fall, Mueller's meticulous dedicated report will stand the scrutiny of history. As might the likely fact that he was coerced into 'finishing' too quickly. (So many more leads to follow.)
Furthermore we now know that Trump's reaction to the fact of the special report was (again of course) hardly Presidential. 'I'm fucked' sounds for all the world like a witch terrified by a witch-hunt.
Rightly so. There have to be leads aplenty even in the unredacted pages - Barr is as prone to error as any corrupt Republican. 'Game over' this absolutely can not and will not be.

"Stopped flow of tapes from Russia but not sure if there's anything else. Just so you know..."
Rtskhiladze told the special counsel that "tapes" referred to “compromising tapes of Trump rumored to be held by persons associated with the Russian real estate conglomerate Crocus Group,” which had helped host the 2013 Miss Universe Pageant, according to the report. Cohen told the special counsel that he spoke to Trump about the issue after receiving Rtskhiladze’s text.
Rtskhiladze, however, told prosecutors that he was told the tapes were fake, but that he didn’t convey that to Cohen.
Such bullshit - if the tapes were "fake" why would this Russian stooge be so concerned about stopping the flow? Quite obvious they were real.

NT Times' Matt Apuzzo:
One of the biggest questions of the past two years — something that fueled the news coverage, the federal investigation and congressional scrutiny — is why so many people around Mr. Trump lied, misled and changed their stories. People hoping that Mr. Mueller would resolve those questions will be disappointed. Time and again, Mr. Mueller seems as confused as anyone else about the motives.

NEW YORK – Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former lawyer, made a surprise appearance before a federal judge in New York on Thursday to plead guilty to lying to Congress about work he did on an aborted project to build a Trump Tower in Russia.
Flanked by his lawyers, Cohen admitted making false statements in 2017 to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about the project.

The somewhat "good" (loosely termed) people in the beginning of trump's term are gone.. even they couldn't stomach his strange, illegal requests. What we have here is the sludge.. this is what is left of draining the swamp, the putrid material of slime, dead matter. It's sinking lower, too. Barr is a great example of this. What's revealed today isn't surprising about trump, but it's more about Barr... who we see how lowly corrupt he is. These are the people of his administration. Barr is the new Cohn.

It is rather clear that Trump attempted to obstruct Mueller's investigation and Comey's before that.
What sort of idiot attempts to obstruct an investigation when he is innocent? Mueller being unable to prove Trumps guilt of conspiring certainly doesn't mean it didn't happen. Trump's own actions make it clear he is guilty of a lot, proving it is another thing.

Just to make sure I have it right...I mean it's fucking clear as day that Trump and his campaign repeatedly communicated and colluded with Russia. Chris Wallace, the most moderate repub on Fox (not counting Shep Smith), says at most the info in the Mueller report is "politically embarrassing/damaging". Brett Baier agreed but also wanted to focus on just the conclusion of no collusion, no obstruction rather than the explanations behind them.
So basically Fox is not moving the needle at all. Chris Wallace maybe slightly but he said there probably isn't enough to impeach Trump over. Really lmfao? I can't imagine if a Democratic president had all of this written about him/her

Forget the fact that Republicans had zero problem with this meeting despite going completely nuts when Bill Clinton met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch on an airplane while Hillary was being investigated, which forced Lynch to recuse herself from the Hillary email investigation leaving it completely up to Comey.
Many thought that Trump would fire Rosenstein before or during that meeting however Trump claimed they had a great meeting and that he would not be firing Rosenstein. I would love to know what happened and what was said in that meeting. Trump had been publicly critical of Rosenstein prior to that meeting, after that meeting I don't think Trump complained about Rosenstein again.

Trump personally directed Mike Flynn to find Hillary Clinton's deleted emails, special counsel says. In July 2017, President Trump sought to prevent disclosure that his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., had arranged a meeting during the 2016 campaign after being promised information that would be damaging to Democrat Hillary Clinton that he was told had been gathered by the Russian government, according to the special counsel’s report.
The month before, the president’s advisers were alerted that the New York Times was planning to report on the meeting, which took place at Trump Tower in June 2016 between top Trump aides and a Russian lawyer linked to the Kremlin . On the flight back to Washington from the Group of 20 meeting, White House adviser Hope Hicks gave to the president a draft statement by Donald Trump Jr. that said the younger Mr. Trump had been told about “information helpful to the campaign.” The president directed Ms. Hicks to “say only that Trump Jr. took a brief meeting and it was about Russian adoption,” according to the report, which cites Ms. Hicks and text messages between her and Donald Trump Jr.
Donald Trump Jr. urged Ms. Hicks to say that he wanted the statement to say they had “primarily” discussed adoption, texting her: “If I don’t have it in there it appears as though I’m lying later when they inevitably leak something.” Ms. Hicks told him: “Boss man worried it invites a lot of questions.” The statement that was given to the Times included the word “primarily.”
Ms. Hicks later in the flight again urged the president to be “fully transparent” about the meeting, convinced the emails about it would leak. Mr. Trump told her: “You’ve given a statement. We’re done,” according to the report.
Days later, Donald Trump Jr. posted redacted images of his emails setting up the meeting, after being told the Times was planning to publish the emails, according to the report. Mr. Trump’s lawyer “repeatedly and inaccurately” denied that the president had been involved in drafting the statement, the report said.
The interactions over the Trump tower meeting were one of 10 episodes the special counsel investigated while probing any obstruction of justice by Mr. Trump

President Trump trolled his critics following the release of the Mueller report, joking that he was going to be in office for the next 10 to 14 years. The president was hosting participants of the Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride in the East Room and was given a trophy as a token of appreciation. “This will find a permanent place, at least for six years, in the Oval Office,” Trump said. “I was going to say for at least 10 to 14 years. R383 / R384 the sad part is that most likely all these staffers will still have careers in politics when the Trump administration comes to an end. Look at Barr. He was a disgrace during Bush I years but it was largely glossed over and he was referred to as "respectable" leading up to his confirmation this go around.
I can easily see a lot of the people in the Trump administration simply staying behind the scenes for a years and then returning for prominent roles in 10/15/20 years.
Kellyanne Conway and Sarah Sanders won't be shunned by most repubs either

by Anonymous | reply 389 | April 19, 2019 2:18 AM |
Giuliani and others talked about this from the very beginning. Their strategy was that they cast Russia's interference as a political rather than legal issue. They spread their propaganda for two years, calling it a witch hunt, fake news, enemies of the people, hoax, and anything else they could think of to advance their narrative. Thanks to Barr, they were able to contain Mueller, and force him to shut down his investigation.
Then Barr gets ahead of the report, by "summarizing" Mueller's findings. By getting out here ahead of the true facts in the case, and the actual report, they can continue to spin it, and promote the belief it is political not legal. Since Mueller didn't charge the sitting President, leaving it to Congress, it now actually does enter the realm of politics.
The House will function similar to a grand jury. They will investigate, and they will charge him (impeachment) with improprieties and high crimes or misdemeanors. But as long as the Trump crowd continues to promote their "political witch hunt/hoax" they will hold the Senate. If we want the Mueller findings to gain traction and result in getting Trump out of office, then we have to start promoting the findings in a real PR campaign. That's the only way to erode support for Trump in the Senate. We have to figure out how to pry 20 Republican Senators away from McConnell.
We have to be smart and sharp and aggressive. We also have to be careful not to look petty, tiresome and vengeful. We don't need the public thinking Trump is some kind of victim. That is what I believe. Now, GIuliani kept saying this is a political thing not a legal thing. And that is exactly what their strategy has been from day one. They have cast Mueller's investigation in those terms from the beginning. And they cast his report in that framework. So now that it is out, as far as they're concerned they can continue to run the board accusing the Democrats of a partisan political strategy. We have to be just as aggressive and strategic.

Mueller wrote a clumsy summary statement.
To say that "Had we enough evidence to clearly exonerate....we would so state."
No. Mueller needed to write "We have sufficient evidence to...."
He wasn't tasked with exoneration, so why even mention it? And the adverb "clearly" suggests there might be SOME evidence, albeit muddled, to exonerate.
And concluding there is no evidence that Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie to prosecutors, even though the latter so testified under oath while the former "didn't recall" anything in his written answers and was never interviewed, never mind questioned under oath?
Is Mueller really that naive?

R403 Geez, did Mueller expect Trump's and Putin's signatures on that written agreement as well? All the collusions were done by underlings or intermediaries just so there would be room for scapegoating and denials. We are dealing with dirty scoundrels with a common aim here... all they needed was communication to coordinate not an ironclad contract. Just evidence for such communication (which obviously exist) would be proof enough of conspiracy. You would think anyone who has investigated organized crimes and international espionage would know better

They need to have to face a less-than-adoring-public. It's obvious Manafort was the one who brought the existing Russian campaign to sow discord in the US, and the (at that time) clueless Trump campaign together. He did all the initial coordination changing the GOP platform in exchange for Russian help influencing the US electorate. There is a reason he's still lying to save Trump's ass. Then, Trump and his inner circle got their hands dirty getting involved in the email hacking scheme. Trump was definitely in on this one 100% since playing dirty tricks is what he likes (it makes idiots like him feel "smart"). Trump has lied a lot about everything to do with the email hacking, so you know he is guilty as sin.

by Anonymous | reply 428 | April 19, 2019 5:25 AM |
R422 yes they did lie and destroy evidence but unfortunately that means there's no solid proof of an official agreement. We don't have that Nixon-like-tape of Trump and Putin agreeing to work together on the phone or something. A recording of that would have been clear proof of conspiracy. Instead Mueller just found multiple instances of communication and exchanges of information but not an agreement.

Sarah is fat fucking lying cunt and hilarious she wore black & white redacted stripes
by Anonymous | reply 430 | April 19, 2019 5:40 AM |
R429 Bringing Putin into this is unhelpful since he is well protected at a distance from all this dirty business. Collusion with Russia does not mean any agreement between Trump and Putin. The Russian government (under Putin) paid for a covert operation to sow discord among Americans during the elections. The agents from that operation are the ones who used Manafort as the conduit to create the conditions for coordination/collusion (i.e. "agreement") between the two sides. Mueller failed to turn Mannafort completely and hence lack that nail in the coffin needed to "prove" collusion/conspiracy. Of course, this failure is due entirely to Team Trump's pervasive operation to thwart the investigation and obstruct justice.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | April 19, 2019 5:43 AM |
R431 ok but the point is that even though it's obvious there was collusion, that's not a crime and Mueller was looking to see if there was conspiracy. He was unable to find evidence of an agreement so that unfortunately foiled any charge of someone being charged for that. Unfortunately it allows Trump's supporters on Fox "News" to say "no collusion" with their spin

by Anonymous | reply 436 | April 19, 2019 6:30 AM |
R432 I believe the only reason Mueller cannot get definitive proof of the conspiracy is because Trump is obstructing the investigation by keeping Manafort from confessing everything. Manafort is the one who hashed out the initial quid pro quo (pro Russian platform for campaign help) with his Russian counterpart when this conspiracy began. Later on, Trump's inner circle become involved when the Russians offered dirt (i.e stolen emails from the Dems) directly to Trump Jr.

Glenn Greenwald––who has been highly critical of the Russia media coverage for a while now––went on a tear tonight with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson following the release of the Mueller report.
Greenwald said media outlets “constantly fed each other these conspiracy theories and told each they are they were on the right track” and said other networks are “in such a bubble where they have no idea what’s going on in the world.”
Carlson asked how the “discredited and broken” American media can be fixed.
Greenwald said there should be self-reflection and introspection:
“If you listen to the media discourse, outside of a few circles, they’ve just put collusion and conspiracy and all of those conspiracy theories they’ve spent the last three years endorsing––flushed it down the toilet like they don’t exist and just seamlessly shifted to obstruction. And then they’re conflating them to claim that they were right all along. And that is really the alarming thing. I think that in a lot of ways Donald Trump broke the brains of a lot of people, particularly people in the media who believe that telling lies, inventing conspiracy theories, being journalistically reckless, it’s all justified to stop this unparalleled menace. And that’s a good thing for activist to think and a really bad thing for a journalist to think.”

Not impressed with Mueller's refusal to subpoena Trump, Don Jr, Jared and even Ivanka. All the kids were in the Trump Tower meeting and Ivanka dealt with the TT Moscow.

I think to make the charge of criminal conspiracy would be saying Treason. So yes a higher bar. But that doesn't mean Trump didn't cooperate. He did. (I feel like he did way more that "cooperate" but I'm not a counter intelligence investigator or a prosecutor.) Mueller recounts multiple instances of cooperation with the Russians. And while it may not rise to the level of a criminal conspiracy, it is definitely on the same road, and it is an impeachable offense.
The media and their so-called experts need to take a step back and stop parsing words and legal terms and fully appreciate what Trump and his posse did. They cooperated with a foreign government to interfere in our elections a defraud the American people and they were successful. In fact there was a quid pro quo because the sanctions were lifted and that resulted in billions for Putin & Russia. If it looks like a duck and it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, then it's a duck. Trump and his inner circle are traitors. He ought to be run out of the White House and prosecuted by the state of NY and have his fucking assets stripped and live out his days at Rikers Island. He wants to spend tim on an island let it be Rikers.

R427, The Trump campaign was far from "clueless." Remember Manafort and Flynn?
Trump has been Putin's Puppet (tm HRC) for decades!
The NY Russian Mob has been his go-to "bank" for Trump, Inc. ....Not to mention his son-in-law's 666 Fifth Avenue. They don't play with debtors. But they do supply "models" who might originally come from Slovenia.
Trump took the (Gee, I wonder what attracted him to this enterprise involving young women) Miss Universe pageant to Moscow as (failed) barter for a Trump Hotel Moscow, at which time Putin supplied the prostitutes and secured the Pee Tapes, as noted in the Steele Dossier.
Moreover, all one needs to see, provable evidence to satisfy Mueller aside, is Trump's demeanor and expression when he walked onto that press conference stage in a subservient position to Putin. Cowed and beholden.
So now what? All the money-laundering through Alfa Bank, the Bank of Cyprus, Deutschebank, etc. is to be ignored, along with the REASONS for the laundering: the Top 3 money-makers in the international trafficking trade (drugs, weapons, and people, including minors to slake the perversions and criminal tendencies of wealthy men) ?
Trump is a bona fide criminal, a thug. When he made the statement about "I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue...." he wasn't speaking primarily of his loyal cult; he was voicing his DESIRE, like some of us might say, "I could eat some pizza about now."
Finally, WHY did Mueller think he had to prove a Presidential crime "beyond a reasonable doubt," **IF HE WASN'T EVER GOING TO INDICT TRUMP**??
In hindsight, Mueller should have begun with Trump, subpoena and all. Bill Clinton had to testify under oath ON CAMERA, FGS.
Mueller, and America, got played. Or did only one?

Trump had guilty knowledge, criminal intent, bad intent, WTF ever they call the legal term, and it definitely meets the threshold for Obstruction. It's grounds for impeachment and the Senate can convict him and take away his PResidency. But the Senate will not do this unless public opinion and the Media are relentless in putting pressure on them. We need 20 Republican Senators. We ought to be dealing with them in their states to pry them away from McConnell. We know how to generate outrage so lets get going.

by Anonymous | reply 526 | April 19, 2019 6:12 PM |
OK. Let's look at this. Let's say that when Congress returns from Easter recess, the House of Representatives establishes a select committee to deal with impeachment. I think that's how it works. Either that or the House Judiciary committee does it. As I see it, the House functions sort of as a Grand Jury. They hold hearings and conduct an investigation, get testimony from witnesses etc. Then the committee votes on whether to file charges: Draw up Articles of Impeachment. Once these Articles of Impeachment are voted out of Committee, they go to the full House for a vote. With any kind of luck the vote is bi-partisan. Some Republicans vote with the Dems. Pelosi really wants this to be bi-partisan so it's a concern. She doesn't want it to be seen as a purely partisan exercise. That's what made the Clinton thing so bad. That and the fact most people saw it as petty. A blow job?
Assuming the vote favors Impeachment it goes to the Senate. Mitch McConnell will refuse to establish a Senate Select Committee on Impeachment, and Lindsey Graham will effectively block the Senate Judiciary from considering it. It dies. So what is achieved? I'll tell you what: The entire ugly, filthy, Russian plot will be exposed. It will be plastered all over TV and the internet for weeks or months, heading right into the 2020 election.
Because we know the Republicans will ignore the evidence and mostly cast this as a political vendetta, and because we know McConnell will block it, the sense of outrage can be effectively exploited. There will be no way they can spin it, or ignore the sheer volume of wrong-doing.
So either the voting public believes the Republicans, or the Democrats. And even if they do believe the Dems will they think this is petty? Not if we handle it right. Lying about a blow job so your wife doesn't find out is one thing. Lying about Russia is another. If I had to point out one thing I would say the media has not done an effective job of demonizing Putin. He's an evil bastard. He's our enemy. But people don't seem to see the evil in him as much as they need to.
My main criticism of the Democrats right now is that they risk losing momentum, because of the fact that the Media is covering the redacted Mueller report, and there have been no real surprises (Except "I'm fucked!" ) Now, the other thing we can count on is that Trump has done a lot of things having nothing to do with the Mueller report, that are impeachable offenses, especially in the realm of abuse of power. I think it was a mistake to hang your hat solely on the Mueller report. I think Mueller's report should be part of the consideration, but not make up the entirety of the case against Trump.

Note that Mueller said in his report that he wanted evidence to be protected and saved. He said that once the president is no longer president he is open to prosecution just as any other citizen. He couldn't have said it more plainly than that. It's obvious he thinks the president is guilty of obstruction. As numerous lawyers have opined. SUCCESS at obstructing justice is not necessary for prosecution and conviction. All you have to prove is intent to obstruct, and Mueller has already done that. Hell, Don McGann's testimony alone is sufficient to prove it.

States with NO backup paper ballots: Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, New Jersey, and South Carolina. This is not good. Of those, Georgia is close to moving purple, and a national election there could be really tight. Georgia has 159 counties, more than any other state, except for Texas at 254. Georgia is vulnerable.
Nine other states have jurisdictions that don't have physical alternatives to their electronic systems: Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas. Kentucky, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas. Florida, Pennsylvania, and Texas will be critical states. It is shocking Florida STILL hasn't improved their system sufficiently.
It is not impossible for corrupt precinct captains and other election operatives to succumb to political pressures, bribes, or carelessness that allows outside entities to infiltrate.
If you live in any of these states, start complaining to your election officials, state legislators, local media, and Governors.

I know, R552. That's my point. The media, including the more liberal leaning outfits, just keep harping on the Democrats and why aren't they moving fast enough to fix everything. The Repugs are in charge of everything except the House but all the focus is only on the House. Everyone knows that an impeachment followed by a finding of not guilty in the Senate plays into the Repugs hands for 2020. If this were the pre-Reagan Repug party, they'd be leading the charge for impeachment because of what Trump is doing to their party but the current Repug party is amoral. Like I said, stop playing along with the Repug talking points that this is up to the Democrats and Trump and his criminal cabal are angelic victims.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | April 19, 2019 8:42 PM |
R552 I agree. I think from an election year perspective they would shame the Republican Senators. But here's a concern. Let's say we begin Impeachment proceedings, and the Senate blocks a trial. The possibility that Trump gets re elected is real. The possibility the Dems take the Senate is real. So now what? Do we go for Impeachment again? Can we? So we go for impeachment now and it fails, and we do it again in January, 2021? Politically it weakens our case to have tried and failedand then try again. It's not a good scenario.

Those of you who think any rethug is going to come to their senses needs to listen to Chris Hayes' "why is this happening" interview with Jonathan Metzl.
The rethugs are terrified of their white trash voters who would rather literally DIE than vote for a Democrat. Even when they know rethug policies are literally killing them and their children. They simply care more about denying black and brown people humanity and help than they do about saving themselves.
In their twisted talibangelical mind, they see themselves as martyrs to this great white cause. And they will ALWAYS vote repug because rethugs promise to strip everything from everyone.
They simply care more about killing black and brown people than they do themselves.

I recall a lot of stops and starts in the Nixon investigation. We were dismayed, then, too. Hang in there because change is coming one way or another.
We have to rely on ourselves now. Vote all these fuckers out, and when we have control in 2020, we put that little asshole, Kavanaugh, on the hot seat and impeach his ass.

R559, I used to think views like yours were extreme....before 2016.
Don't give up. We outnumber them and we're increasing daily. Keep up knowing that their time, if 2018 was any indication, is coming to an end.

Is it possible Putin is financing the South American caravans that are appearing to happen like clockwork? Isn’t that a huge trigger button for unrest in the US? Putin has sucessfully hacked Florida computers. I can see him hacking our society by financing the caravans. He would benefit greatly. The Right says it’s Soros. The Left says its Christian Evangelicals. What if it were Putin? Someone is financing this. Who would enjoy seeing the chaos this causes?

If Dems impeach without the Senate, then they risk looking petty and vindictive and having Repubs frame the narrative.
If Dems do nothing, then they risk stoking apathy and defeatism. Russia has already stated outright that they will fuck us over again in 2020.
Since they're damned if they do, damned if they don't, I think I'd rather they went for broke.

So Mueller's report laid out everything for Congress to lay out impeachment.
Just because Barr gave a summary and redacted the report does not mean it prevents Congress from carrying out what Mueller laid in place.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | April 19, 2019 9:51 PM |
I agree that the Senate GOP are never going for impeachment. So what the Democrats have to do- which they're doing now- is stringing it out just a little bit longer. They need to allow enough time for a few more bombshells to drop and then start for impeachment because by then, the table is set for the election and the GOP will be forced to either continue with justifying Trump....or....they quietly go to him and demand he resign.
That's when Trump will go even more batshit and all the stuff about his finances, money laundering etc will come out. And hopefully by then Mueller will have also testified.
A rat can survive some shit tossed at it, but it can't survive a Notre Dame fire.

The problem with the Senate is that its corrupt. You have Richard Burr, chair of the intelligence committee playing Superspy for Trump, Mitch McConnell who blatantly acts in an unethical and partisan way as long as his bank account swells. You still have Grassley, another who is openly corrupt. Lord knows there are more. The only way to win in the Senate is to expose the corruption and publicly accuse them. I have not heard a single Senator...or Congressperson make a single comment about Burr. No calls for recusal or resignation. I finally saw Nancy Pelosi attack McConnell today for refusing to go public about Russia and hiding it from the people. They need to be publicly ridiculed and demand resignations like the GOP tried with Adam Schiff.

The target of the Impeachment is not the President, it is Senate Democrats. The House will be laying out a map for Republicans to abandon Party over country.
The first thing the House should do is open an Impeachment investigation on the Vice President.
by Anonymous | reply 568 | April 19, 2019 10:25 PM |
The sense seems to be that Barr has done himself no favors. I wonder if he's thinking about how Michael Cohen ended up because it should be clear to Barr that Trump is not a happy camper right now and he'll be looking for someone to blame. I would be willing to bet that Trump is telling people behind closed doors that Barr screwed up that press conference and made the situation worse.
I'd be interested to see what happens to Barr over the next few months. Barr really should have looked more closely at Cohen because it's clear that giving loyalty to Trump is pointless when the shit hits the fan because Trump won't give that same loyalty back.

I think it is all in the timing. The Dems need to do a full investigation and have as much of it public as possible. Get every one of Trump's former associates on TV basically repeating what they said to Mueller. Do this daily. Then, once there is an establishment of high crimes and misdeamors, impeach the MF. The Senate pretty much has to hold an impeachment trail with the Chief Justice overseeing. If the republicans, refused to do this - especially with all the evidence again being made public, I think there would be a huge backlash. Trump might keep his 40% but the rest of the country would be so ready to out him that they would vote for a sandwich over him.

R568 Thing is, I haven't read the report at all. And everything is focused on Trump. What in the Meuller Report does it say about Pence?
by Anonymous | reply 571 | April 19, 2019 10:29 PM |
No, sorry, Barr isn't thinking anything other than he did his job and that he'll walk away unscathed. He, like the rest of the Rethugs are smug assholes, who believe they are above the law because they have always gotten away with everything.
by Anonymous | reply 572 | April 19, 2019 10:30 PM |
Not a whole lot but Pence was in charge of the transition team.
He was there working with Manafort and Flynn.
The opening of an Impeachment Investigation against Pence would scare the shit out of both of them.

by Anonymous | reply 574 | April 19, 2019 10:34 PM |
Could SDNY open an obstruction of justice investigation against Barr? He flat out lied to the American people about the Mueller report and withheld it for three weeks while Trump Administration prepped. The summaries could have been released along with his letter.

R575 I dont know... maybe a bunch of citizens could file a lawsuit against Barr and take it to the Supreme Court.
I remember that this was discussed previously. That technically Hillary or anyone actually, could file a lawsuit against Dotard and his campaign for what happened with the election and... well, Ive already forgotten what the goal was. Some legal scholars talked about it on Progressive Radio and said it was actually a viable tactic, but no one had taken it up.

Remember the House charged Eric Holder with Contempt of Congress for refusing to release documents on Fast and Furious. If I remember correctly a handful of Democrats even voted in favor of this. I like Eric Holder. I think he has more integrity in his little pinkly that the whole sweaty body of Barr.

Great Elizabeth but you're a Senator., what are you doing about it within your branch?
Like, great, I'm glad people are calling for it, but it bothers me when it's obviously motivated by a campaign run.

Please can we just here from Mueller instead of all the third parties?
Take my poll.

I'm one of those who despises Trump and thinks it's crucial to get him out of office ASAP. I've been against impeachment, though, for the very reason Nancy Pelosi is. Pragmatism. It just wouldn't work, and might even backfire helping Trump to win the next election
However, I think I'm changing my mind. Any legal scholars reading please help me. My thinking is this; getting rid of Trump isn't good enough. We have to get rid of Trumpism, which may stay long after Trump himself has departed. Wouldn't the only possible way of doing this would be to have Trump testify? in public? For the entire world to see? In a place where he can't hide behind his phony campaign rhetoric? Where he is forced to tell the truth? Where all the world can see if he is even capable of telling the truth?
Would impeachment proceedings be the quickest way for this to happen? Think about Bill Clinton. He lied, but he was still pretty convincing and made a solid case within the eyes of public scrutiny? Would Trump be able to get away with that? An impeachment hearing might be the only way we truly get to see Trump cross-examined and sweating for his life.
So those legal minds who truly know about and understand how impeaching a president works. Am I making a correct assumption?
by Anonymous | reply 586 | April 19, 2019 11:25 PM |
Is there a timetable on impeachment? Could they just start the impeachment investigation which would give them a broader legal scope to attain everything they want and then spend the next year running an official impeachment investigation into every single aspect of Trump and his cabal?
by Anonymous | reply 587 | April 19, 2019 11:32 PM |
I do not see why Trump would have to appear and testify at his impeachment trial, R586, especially if he was confident that he had the votes for acquittal.

I really don't understand why Mueller didn't subpoena Trump, especially after the written answers were shown to be complete crap.
I think there was a plan to use Jr. as the enticement for Trump to testify but Barr shut down the investigation early.
The first question anyone better ask Mueller is whether Barr shut down the investigation like we know he did. At which point, Barr should be immediately impeached.
